Perform all the duties and responsibilities as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, supporting production and development environments with a strong focus on networking, firewalls, security and backups. Design, deploy and administer a distributed network of OpenBSD/PF/CARP firewalls and OpenVPN endpoints. Provide engineering expertise in optimizing customer architectures, with a focus on HA+ and load-balancing, to maintain resource utilization and scalability requirements. Troubleshoot network failures and misconfigurations using ground-up diagnosis methodologies with tools such as tcpdump, snoop, Ethereal, Nmap, iperf, tcpbench, dig, and ping. Built, maintained, and monitored back-end servers, customer systems, employee workstations and terrestrial & satellite-feed based networks. Performed scheduled and emergency rdist synchronization to internal and external systems. My daily responsibilities included: creation and maintenance of Kerberos keytabs for customer equipment; creation and removal of employee accounts as necessary; Kerberos 5 and DNS server administration; Mail server and Majordomo mailing list updates; maintenance of backup systems running Amanda/chio/dump/restore/mt; additional troubleshooting as necessary. Beyond the normal daily tasks, our Systems Engineering group was also responsible for handling any trouble tickets that the NOC was unable to resolve. This included network/host resolution, downed circuits, DNS corrections, etc. We also supported the needs of our Research & Development group, often performing test windows and deployments of new software and hardware upgrades. Created numerous Perl, Sed/Awk and Shell scripts to gather and store network interface statistics, monitor mail spools, perform maintenance and updates on Kerberos realms, and to automate network services, user accounts, remote access and security procedures. All daily tasks were performed on Sun Sparcstation, Compaq Alpha, and Intel-based workstations/servers running NetBSD, FreeBSD, SunOS/Solaris, or Linux.

IBI Service Delivery - Special Projects/Reterms

As a member of the Service Delivery - Special Projects/Reterms Team, my responsibilities included the reterm of multiple Points-Of-Presence, including the DCA5 POP in Washington, D.C. Working closely with Bell Atlantic, we completed an excess of 100 IBI or customer-provided DS-3 and DS-1 circuits with minimal downtime to our customers and partners. Coordinated design of multiple PVC's, worked with Field Engineering, Routing, and NOC to perform hot-cuts, and created & maintenaned work orders during the configuration windows. In addition, our group was responsible for the beta-testing, process refinement, and ramp-up of new connectivity solutions, including Rhythms and Northpoint DSL products. Supported the entire life-cycle of the DSL product: initial contact with the end-user, online ordering with the DSL provider; order tracking and escalation; technical support during installation, and post-install testing and acceptance with the end-user. All daily tasks were performed using SGI/Irix and Intel/WindowsNT workstations or servers.
